Mr. Tribble stated this year’s Heritage Barrie Awards would include nominations from Barrie citizens with final award selection by the Heritage Barrie Committee. He noted that Emma Sharpe, Communications Advisor with Access Barrie offered to assist with communicating the nomination process to the public and advertising the Heritage Barrie Awards in This Week in Barrie and social media platforms. Brislin, Senior Policy Planner provided an update on Heritage Walking Tours of Union Cemetery and Downtown Barrie to be conducted by Barrie’s Town Crier. The Downtown Barrie Tour theme would be Victorian rogues and scoundrels tour. The Committee discussed potential dates and agreed to reschedule the end of September to coincide with Barrie Culture Days. The Committee agreed that the Town Crier’s fee of up to $200 would be paid from the Heritage Barrie Committee account.Received  Action details Not available
TMP-12656 1  Item of DiscussionMUNICIPAL HERITAGE COMMITTEES ORIENTATION WORKSHOP K. Brislin, Senior Policy Planner advised that the Culture Services Unit of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport requested that the Heritage Barrie Committee host a cultural heritage conservation orientation workshop in the Fall of 2015. Mr. Brislin noted this workshop would be offered to heritage committee members, councillors and municipal staff from neighbouring municipalities in Simcoe County. The Heritage Barrie Committee agreed to host the Ministry of Tourism’s cultural heritage conservation orientation workshop in the Fall of 2015 at a cost not to exceed $300.Received  Action details Not available

Brislin, Senior Policy Planner provided an update regarding the Environmental Advisory Committee meeting held on July 8, 2015, which was attended by members of the Heritage Barrie Committee to discuss designating Heritage Trees in the City of Barrie. Ms. Brislin provided an overview of the discussion regarding designating Heritage Trees on public and private property. Brislin, Senior Policy Planner advised that Ontario Heritage Trust is seeking nominations for the 2015 Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Awards and Young Heritage Leaders program. Ms. Brislin noted that these awards celebrate excellence, leadership, creativity and innovation in heritage conservation. She commented that nominations for these awards must be submitted before September 30, 2105. C.
