TMP-32831 22.1 Discussion ItemGEORGIAN COLLEGE UPDATES Megan Fenton, Georgian College Representative, provided an update regarding Georgian College. Ms. Fenton advised that currently there are 3800 students attending Barrie with domestic exceeding 1176 students. Ms. Fenton advised that orientation for students is the last week of August, and the hope is that more students will attend this year.   Not available Not available
TMP-32832 22.2 Discussion ItemGEORGIAN STUDENT SURVEY Megan Fenton, Georgian College Representative, discussed the possibility of a student survey to gain more feedback. Ms. Fenton advised that the survey would include feedback on current City By-laws that are affecting student life. She advised that student housing is currently an issue and reviewing the current by-laws could help with future decisions around student housing.   Not available Not available
TMP-32833 22.3 Discussion ItemCITY UPDATES Jason Forgrave, Supervisor of Enforcement Services, provided an update to the committee regarding enforcement and the services they provide. Mr. Forgrave advised that a college sharing information session would be a good idea to review current by-laws with students that affect student housing. He advised that there is the Barrie Social Media page that has up to date information that could assist students when trying to find certain by-laws or regulations. He also advised that safer housing is one of the main problems he has heard from student housing and how the city can work towards providing students with safer housing. Jason VanWieringen, Zoning Officer, discussed with the committee his role and responsibilities with the city. Mr. VanWieringen advised that one of the main complaints they get a lot of is around room/boarding houses and not enough housing to accommodate the student population. He advised that the zoning team is quite busy with requests and that students are always pleasant when dealing with enforcement.   Not available Not available
