BARRIE FIRE PROTECTION SERVICES
Sunjeev Sodi, Public Fire Protection Specialist with the Fire Underwriters Survey provided a presentation on the Barrie Fire Protection Services Review and noted that the Fire Underwriters Survey was founded in 1883 to develop a standardized index of fire insurance grades utilized in underwriting and the determination of insurance rates.
Mr. Sodi commented that the purpose of the presentation is to inform the Committee about the status of the Barrie Fire Protection Services Review. He provided a number of slides and graphs relating to the following key elements:
· The Fire Insurance Grading Index
· An overview of Fire Insurance Grading
· The Fire Risk Assessment
· The Barrie Fire Department Assessment
· Water Supply Assessment for Public Fire Protection
Mr. Sodi provided the previous and updated fire insurance grades for Barrie with details for each station. He reviewed the recommendations to improve Barrie's grading.
Mr. Sodi concluded by noting that the City of Barrie's Fire Master Plan is an excellent document and that the Barrie Fire and Emergency Services system operates on a solid foundation. He suggested that the Fire Master Plan be continually updated and recommendations in the Fire Master Plan be implemented. He also suggested that investment in Fire Prevention would assist to reduce and mitigate risk. Mr. Sodi recommended continued updates and reports to the Fire Underwriters Survey to ensure fire insurance grades are consistent with service levels.
Members of Finance and Corporate Services Committee asked a number of questions regarding the information contained in the presentation and received responses from the Presenter and City staff.
