OPEN DELEGATION BY HANNAH BREGMAN CONCERNING WALKABILITY IN BARRIE, ESPECIALLY IN THE URBAN GROWTH CENTRES AND HOW WALKABLE NEIGHBOURHOODS COULD BENEFIT THE CITY
Hannah Bregman provided an open delegation concerning walkability in Barrie especially in the Urban Growth Centres and How Walkable Neighbourhoods could benefit the City. Ms. Bregman explained that she chose to focus her analysis on the potential future redevelopment of Bradford Street for the creation of a walkable community.
Ms. Bregman discussed slides concerning the following topics:
• An outline of her experience and educational background;
• Potential and rationale for redeveloping Bradford Street to create a walkable community;
• Existing and proposed options for Bradford Street;
• Examples of a Move-Through and Destination Bradford approach;
• The rationale associated with induced demand;
• Examples of induced demands related to auto and multi-modal focus;
• Impacts of road widening and the effects on the City’s goals to create walkable sustainable neighbourhoods; and
• The next steps.
In closing, Ms. Bregman suggested making Bradford Street a destination and not a thoroughfare.
