RECOGNITION OF LIFEGUARDS FOR THEIR ACTIONS ASSOCIATED WITH SAVING A LIFE AT CENTENNIAL BEACH.

Mayor Lehman called upon Adam Lukaszek, Renee Bourgeois and Samuel Owen to join him at the podium to be recognized for of their lifesaving efforts at Centennial Beach on July 2, 2015.  He noted that lifeguards Jennifer McKee and Kayla Van Schubert, also involved in the rescue, were unable to attend the City Council meeting.

Mayor Lehman discussed the details of a drowning incident at Centennial Beach on July 2, 2015 and highlighted the individual efforts of Adam, Renee, Samuel, Jennifer and Kayla that contributed to saving the individual’s life.  He indicated that the individual had no vital signs when rescued but had been revived prior to paramedics arriving due to the well-executed lifesaving efforts of the Rescue Team.  Mayor Lehman commented that the Paramedic, Fire and Police Service responders on the scene commended the Lifeguards for their level of training and quick response.

Mayor Lehman thanked Barrie Fire and Emergency Service, Barrie Police Service and Simcoe County Paramedic Service for their quick response time and support at the scene.  He also expressed thanks to Brad McConnell, Marina Coordinator and Captain Domenic Filippelli of the Barrie Fire and Emergency Service for their Crisis Incident Stress Management Debrief afterwards with staff.

Mayor Lehman acknowledged the quick thinking and calm of the Lifeguards in dealing with this situation.  On behalf of City Council and the community, Mayor Lehman again thanked the Lifeguards for their incredible lifesaving efforts and presented each of them with a certificate and a City of Barrie Award of Merit medallion.

On behalf of the Lifeguards, Samuel Owen thanked members of Council for the recognition and commented that it was not just an effort by the five Lifeguards, but by the City of Barrie due to the great training that they received, as it allowed for a good rescue.
