ROYAL VICTORIA HOSPITAL PROGRESS UPDATE
Mayor J. Lehman called upon Jon Babulic, Chair of the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) Board of Directors to introduce Scott Elliott, Vice Chair of the RVH Foundation, Janice Skot, President and Chief Executive Officer of RVH and Susanne Legue, Senior Director of Corporate Communications to provide a presentation to members of City Council concerning the Royal Victoria Hospital progress update.
S. Elliott thanked the City of Barrie on behalf of the staff and volunteers of RVH for the 52.5 million dollar investment the City of Barrie had made towards the RVH expansion project. S. Elliott noted at the time, the City had made the largest investment towards a hospital capital project in the province of Ontario. He commented that the City lead the way and started the “I Believe” Capital Campaign.
J. Skot provided an update regarding the Phase One Expansion Project. She recognized Councillor Prowse, Councillor Strachan and Councillor Ward who were City Council members in 2005 when the unanimous decision was made by Council to provide the grant funding. She provided photos of the construction site and noted that the expansion project, once complete will double the size of the hospital at a cost of 450 million dollars. She explained that after the renovation, the hospital will have the capacity for 165 new in- patient beds, a dedicated Coronary Care Unit, Expanded Emergency Department, Expanded Laboratory, Expanded Diagnostic Imaging Department, 2 new Operating Rooms, the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Care Centre and Rotary Place.
Ms. Skot provided a brief video created by Eye in the Sky Photography regarding the construction progress to date. She stated that the City of Barrie shares in the success of the project. Ms. Skot concluded that the construction should be complete at the end of 2011 with the grand opening to be held in the spring of 2012.
