Title: COMMENTS FROM OUTGOING STUDENT MAYOR(S) Ben Gilbart of Monsignor Clair Catholic School commented that he has been fortunate to be by elected his peers as Student Mayor. He stated that he was amazed by the amount of effort and skill it takes to be part of City Council. He acknowledged the plaque in the chambers highlighting "The people are the City" and indicated that the City is run by dedicated individuals with a passion for politics and the well-being of the City. Ben remarked that Barrie is a beautiful city full of intensity with things to do and sites to see. He observed that he has lived in Barrie all his of life and truly thinks that Barrie is above beyond any other lakefront community. In closing, Ben commented that he was grateful for the experience, and thanked the members of Council and staff for the opportunity to learn about government at the municipal level and for making his time as Student Mayor enjoyable.  
 
Elizabeth Case of Innisdale Secondary School thanked the Mayor and Members of Council for the incredible opportunity over the past few weeks to observe the dedication and passion of every member of Council for the citizens of Barrie.  She commented that this experience has opened her eyes to the complexity of running a City.  Elizabeth observed that her experience had enhanced her understanding of municipal politics and governance.  
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Elizabeth discussed that she appreciated the way that Council listened to residents and the large public input related to 196 Burton Avenue.  She commented that the decisions of past Council's impacting residents of today as well as decisions made by Council today and in the future.  Elizabeth noted that she valued the decisions made by this Council seem to be in the in the best interest for current and future residents.   
 
Elizabeth stated she enjoyed the recognition of the Firefighters at City Council for their heroic efforts related to the 2012 ice rescue.   She also highlighted the knowledge needed by members of Council with respect to the related legislated required to allow a city to develop and prosper.
 
In closing, Elizabeth thanked Council for the learning opportunity.
