K. Fitzgerald, Policy and Standards Technologist provided an update concerning the enhancement of accessible features in the designs of City Sidewalks.
Ms. Fitzgerald discussed slides concerning the following topics:
· The Ontario Provincial Standard for sidewalks;
· A picture illustrating the typical sidewalk design with tooled joints;
· The Modified Ontario Provincial Standards for Sidewalks; and
· A picture illustrating the city’s current typical sidewalk design with saw-cut joints.
Ms. Fitzgerald advised that by replacing the tooled joints with saw-cut joints on City sidewalks it would allow a continuous and consistent surface treatment for the public using strollers, walkers wheelchairs and similar other mobility enabling devices. She noted that the replacements would improve accessibility within the City.

J. Hall, Marketing and Communications Manager for Empower Simcoe provided an overview of the Empower Simcoe organization and its mandate. Mr. Hall provided introduced J. Tom and S. Tom, the owners of Superior Home Health Care. He advised that Empower Simcoe and Superior Home Health are currently partnering on accessibility initiatives around Barrie and surrounding areas.
