TMP-24513 1  Item of DiscussionAGE FRIENDLY COMMUNITY PLAN UPDATE C. Dillon, Accessibility and Diversity Specialist provided an update concerning the Age Friendly Community Plan. She advised that it is anticipated that a staff report will be going forward to a future General Committee to update the City’s Age Friendly Community Action Plan with new goals and targets, legislation changes, changes to Health systems. The Committee discussed ways keep engaged with the community and provide updates on the Community Plan such as an interactive platform similar to BuildingBarrie.ca, re-survey the community to reboot and reach out to more people, stakeholders, and proposed developments in the City, and the possibility of hosting a forum in 2019/2020 or during the month of June for Seniors’ Month. The Committee provided other suggestions and areas to focus on including, a housing study technology and options for home security, Health care in homes, potential of partnering with the County of Simcoe; and an Age friendly Certificate Program. TMP-24515 1  Item of DiscussionPROMOTIONAL MATERIAL FOR SENIORS ADVISORY COMMITTEE UPDATE Donna Dellio discussed promotional material for the Seniors Advisory Committee to use as handouts about the Committee, the possibility of ad mail and available budget, and a banner for the Committee in 2019. TMP-24514 1  Item of DiscussionSENIORS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBER RESEARCH ON GOALS AND OBJECTIVES ON HOUSING The Committee discussed the research conducted by each of the Committee member associated to their goals and objectives on seniors housing. The Committee commented on the following topics of research on seniors housing: · The varying ages, mobility, and barriers to aging in place; · The unfortunate occurrence of families not being attentive stemming from location to isolation of family members and friends; · Not enough available health care providers, and having to reach out to pricey private caregivers while aging in place; · The housing market is more than stretched in the City; · Co-housing options, including security and safety; and · Affordable housing options for seniors. The Committee enquired about obtaining the income level for seniors and number of seniors living in the City, and agreed to defer this item to a future meeting for more information.Received  Action details Not available
