TMP-23937 1  Presentation - AC/RCUPDATE REGARDING THE SMOKING BAN AT GEORGIAN COLLEGE B. Muscat, Executive Director, Student and Learning Services at Georgian College advised that Georgian College will be a smoke-free environment at all of its properties effective May 6, 2019. Mr. Muscat noted that the smoking definition includes the burning, inhaling, exhaling or vaping of any product or device. R. Calvano, Director of Campus Safety and Security at Georgian College provided a brief overview of the measures that Campus Security will take to enforce the new smoke-free procedures at Georgian College. Mr. Calvano noted that Campus Security will monitor, in particular, the Georgian College exits at Cook Street and Nelson Street. He reviewed some of the College’s communication strategies to reach out to the Ward One residents that may be most impacted by the new smoke-free environment at the College. TMP-23947 1  Presentation - AC/RCDISCUSSION REGARDING SECOND SUITES IN THE GEORGIAN NEIGHBOURHOOD STUDY BOUNDARY AREA Councillor C. Riepma, Chair provided an overview regarding the City’s current restriction of second suites within the Georgian Neighbourhood Study Boundary Area in Ward One. Councillor Riepma advised that Staff Report PLN011-19 dated April 15, 2019 from the Planning and Building Services Department recommended that a Public Meeting be scheduled to consider amendments to the City’s Official Plan and Zoning By-law to remove the restriction of second suites in the Georgian Neighbourhood Study Boundary Area. A. Bourrie, Director of Planning and Building Services provided additional information regarding health and safety issues with some illegal second suites in the Georgian Neighbourhood Study Boundary Area. Ms. Bourrie noted that a Public Meeting will likely be held in early June 2019 to obtain feedback from residents regarding the potential removal of the restriction of second suites in the Georgian Neighbourhood Study Boundary Area. TMP-23938 1  Presentation - AC/RCDISCUSSION REGARDING THE TOWN AND GOWN COMMITTEE’S 2019 DRAFT WORK PLAN The Committee Members suggested that the following items be considered for inclusion in the Town and Gown Committee’s Work Plan: · Increase participation in the Town and Gown Association of Ontario’s events and conferences; · Review the challenges and achievements of Town and Gown Committees in other municipalities; · Develop a communication plan to strengthen relationships between the City, Georgian College students and residents in Ward One; · Encourage more Georgian College students to attend Town and Gown Committee meetings to obtain their input on issues; · Propose that the composition section of Town and Gown Committee’s Terms of Reference be amended to include additional student representation from Georgian College; and · Improve the integration of Georgian College students within the community.   Action details Not available
