Tyrell Turner, Manager of Business Services and Rebecca James-Reid, Executive Director of Access Barrie provided a presentation concerning the survey feedback on the free transit options for seniors.
Mr. Turner and Ms. James-Reid discussed slides concerning the following topics:
· The background information associated to transit options for seniors;
· Flow charts illustrating the results from a seniors survey concerning transit in the City; and
· The benefits to providing a free day of the week and a month pass subsidy to seniors for transit.
The Committee asked a number of questions to the City staff and received responses. | | |

Cheryl Dillon, Accessibility and Diversity Specialist provided an overview to the Committee concerning a potential pilot project for a seniors’ homeshare program between seniors and university and/or college students in the City. Ms. Dillon explained the successful Toronto homeshare program wherein the City of Toronto in partnership with the University of Toronto matches older adults (aged 55 and over) wishing to share a spare room in their home with university and/or college students seeking affordable housing in Toronto. The Committee agreed to invite Mayor Lehman to a future meeting to provide a presentation concerning a seniors’ homesharing project for the City. | | |

Donna Dellio, Chair, discussed the possibility of creating a checklist for seniors renting in Barrie to ensure they are aware of all possibilities when entering into a rental agreement.
City staff advised that many checklists have been created by different organizations to assist renters when looking to rent an apartment / room etc. The Committee agreed that no further action is required. | | |
