McArthur, Acting Deputy City Clerk of the Legislative and Court Services Department provided a presentation regarding the role of the Seniors Advisory Committee, the Committee Support Clerk and Advisory Staff. Ms. McArthur discussed slides concerning the following topics: · The general role of an Advisory Committee of Council; · A flowchart of the Seniors Advisory Committee’s reporting structure to Council; · The basics of Parliamentary Law; and · The role of the Chair, Committee Support Clerk, Committee Members and Advisory Staff. TMP-24111 1  Item of DiscussionKICK-OFF BARBEQUE AND BUDGET DISCUSSION FOR SENIORS MONTH - JUNE 2019 The Committee discussed its participation at the Seniors Barbeques that were held at the Parkview and Allandale 55+ Centres during Seniors Month in June 2018. J. Gourlie, Recreation Programmer noted that last year the Seniors Barbeques at these locations were well attended. The Committee agreed that its continued support and attendance at community events are excellent opportunities to promote the Seniors Advisory Committee. The Committee approved the expenditure of $500.00 from its budget to support the Seniors Barbeques at the Parkview and Allandale 55+ Centres to promote Seniors Month in June 2019 (Account No. 1027-500400). Ms. Gourlie, Recreation Programmer provided an overview of additional social and recreation programs offered by the City of Barrie and service partners during Seniors Month 2019. She noted that the programs for Seniors Month will be advertised in the PALS newsletter, local newspapers and the City of Barrie website.   Action details Not available
TMP-24112 1  Item of DiscussionPROMOTIONAL MATERIAL FOR THE SENIORS ADVISORY COMMITTEE The Committee identified the need for promotional materials for the Seniors Advisory Committee to display at community events. The Committee decided to develop a rack card to provide information regarding the Seniors Advisory Committee. J. Gourlie, Recreation Programmer noted that a rack card to promote the Seniors Advisory Committee could be printed internally at the City of Barrie to reduce costs. The Committee discussed the benefits of purchasing a stand up banner to promote the Seniors Advisory Committee. J. Gourlie, Recreation Programmer offered to gather photographs from seniors events and to purchase the stand up banner. The Committee agreed to purchase a stand up banner at a cost not to exceed $500.00 (Account No. 1027-500400).   Action details Not available

Dillon, Accessibility Coordinator provided an update regarding the Community Information Forum on “Aging with Grace and Grit” that she attended with G. Kavanagh and M. Malcolm on May 24, 2019. Ms. Dillon noted that this Community Information Forum provided information to assist individuals and families with advance care planning. Ms. Dillon advised that she will distribute the advance care planning resources distributed at this event to Committee Members at the next meeting of the Seniors Advisory Committee.   Action details Not available

TMP-24115 1  Item of DiscussionCYCLING WITHOUT AGE INITIATIVE The Committee discussed the Cycling Without Age Initiative that was introduced at a presentation to the Seniors Advisory Committee on April 29, 2019 by C. Tosh, Age-Friendly Community Project Lead at the County of Simcoe. C. Dillon, Accessibility Coordinator noted that this biking program to increase social participation is an Age-Friendly Simcoe County Initiative for Outdoor Spaces. The Committee decided that it would not take further action regarding the Cycling Without Age Initiative as this initiative may fall under the purview of Long-Term Care Facilities within the City of Barrie. Ms. Dillon advised that she will send correspondence to Long-Term Care (LTC) Facilities in the City of Barrie to inform them of the Cycling Without Age Initiative and provide contact information for the Age-Friendly Community Project Lead at the County of Simcoe.   Action details Not available

TMP-24188 1  Item of DiscussionAPPLICATION FOR NEW HORIZONS FOR SENIORS PROGRAM FEDERAL GRANT FUNDING J. Gourlie, Recreation Programmer advised that the City’s Recreation Services Department will likely be submitting an application for a federal grant for the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) 2019-2020. The Committee requested that the City’s application for the NHSP grant include funding of a project to investigate the physical and emotional health, safety and security of seniors within the City of Barrie.   Action details Not available
TMP-24118 1  Item of Discussion2018-2022 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE SENIORS ADVISORY COMMITTEE The Seniors Advisory Committee discussed the goals and objectives for the 2018-2022 term as follows: · An overview of the Committee’s achievements for the previous 2014-2018 term; · The high-level goals of the Committee for the current 2018-2022 term; · The timelines to review the status of the objectives; and · A list of specific objectives for 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
