C. Tosh, Age-Friendly Community Project Lead of the Health and Emergency Services Department at the County of Simcoe provided a presentation regarding An Age-Friendly Simcoe County. Ms. Tosh noted that population aging is a global phenomenon and one of the most significant trends in the 21st century.
Ms. Tosh discussed slides concerning the following topics:
· The World Health Organization’s Eight Dimensions to assess a city’s environment, services and policies reflecting active aging determinants;
· A review of the County of Simcoe’s Positive Aging Strategy: Older Adults Strengthening our Communities;
· An overview of Age-Friendly Simcoe County (AFC) initiatives including:
o Communication and Information;
o Transportation;
o Housing;
o Health and Community Support;
o Outdoor Spaces; and
o Civic Engagement and Volunteerism.

S. Hoffmann, Public Fire and Life Safety Officer/Public Information Officer in the Barrie Fire and Emergency Service (BFES) Department provided an overview of Seniors Programs that BFES offers to assist seniors to lead safer lives. Ms. Hoffmann discussed the BFES “Remembering When” program to help seniors live safely in their homes for as long as possible. She noted that the “Remembering When” program includes eight fire prevention and eight fall prevention safety measures along with a safety checklist.
