TMP-24244 1  Presentation - AC/RCPRESENTATION BY REPRESENTATIVE(S) OF THE BARRIE HISTORICAL ARCHIVE - BOOK OF POETRY PROJECT B. Courtice, President of the Barrie Historical Archive (BHA) provided a presentation entitled, “Pictures Gone Poetic” regarding the BHA’s Book of Poetry Project. Mr. Courtice explained that the Book of Poetry features the literary work of the City’s Poet Laureate, Victoria Butler and will include historical images of the City of Barrie. Mr. Courtice noted that the publication of this Book of Poetry will be in partnership with the BHA. Mr. Courtice discussed slides concerning the following topics: · An overview of the literary journal “The Northern Appeal” founded by Victoria Butler; · Background information regarding the not-for-profit BHA organization; and · An overview of the BHA website. Ms. Butler read her poem to the Committee based on the Barrie Tornado disaster that took place on May 31, 1985. TMP-24304 1  Item of DiscussionHERITAGE HISTORIC WALKING TOURS S. Travers provided an overview of his role as the City of Barrie’s Town Crier. Mr. Travers requested permission to conduct two Heritage Historic Walking Tours this Fall as part of the City’s Culture Days celebration. He explained that the Historic Walking Tours would take place in downtown Barrie on September 27, 2019 and at Union Cemetery on September 28, 2019. Mr. Travers advised that his total fee for conducting the Heritage Historic Walking Tours would be $200.00 and that this fee would be donated to local charities. The Committee agreed to hire Mr. Travers to conduct Heritage Historic Walking Tours on September 27 and 28, 2019 at a cost not to exceed $200.00 (Account No. 1025-501000).   Action details Not available

Rabinovitch, the joint property owner of 94 Clapperton Street, provided a brief historical overview of the residential property. Mr. Rabinovitch reviewed the heritage attributes of 94 Clapperton Street including: its Edwardian architectural style, original hardwood flooring and stained glass windows. The Committee asked questions regarding the information provided and received responses from the property owners. The Committee recommended adding 94 Clapperton Street to the Municipal Heritage Register as a listed property. · 7 BURTON AVENUE - LOYAL ORDER OF ORANGE LODGE 432 C. Froese advised that he would deliver the Municipal Heritage Register Application on behalf of the Heritage Barrie Committee to the Loyal Order of Orange Lodge 432 located at 7 Burton Avenue. · 37 BURTON AVENUE - BURTON AVENUE UNITED CHURCH C. Langford to amend City of Barrie By-law 1990-230 that designates 72 High Street as a heritage property and may inadvertently include the property at 70 High Street. T. TMP-24247 1  Item of DiscussionHISTORICAL PLAQUES FOR HERITAGE BUILDINGS WITHIN THE CITY OF BARRIE - UPDATE C. Froese provided an update regarding the proposed historical plaque initiative for heritage buildings within the City of Barrie. Mr. Froese brought samples of laminated and metal signage material to obtain the Committee’s feedback. He reviewed pricing quotes for the different types of historical signage. The Committee suggested that pricing quotes for historical plaques also be obtained from other local businesses. C. Froese and C. Manewell offered to contact other signage companies in the City for pricing comparisons. T. Wierzba, Planner advised that he would follow up with staff from the Roads, Parks and Fleet Department to obtain quotes for historical plaques if manufactured in-house. The Committee agreed that there should be differences in the size, content and material for historical plaques to distinguish between designated and non-designated properties within the City of Barrie.   Action details Not available
TMP-24245 1  Item of DiscussionPOTENTIAL PARTICIPATION AT THE BARRIE FARMERS’ MARKET C. Froese proposed that the Heritage Barrie Committee participate at the Barrie Farmers’ Market during the Summer and Fall 2019. Mr. Froese noted that the Committee could book a community table at the Barrie Farmer’s Market on two dates free of charge. The Committee agreed that participating at the Barrie Farmers’ Market would be an excellent opportunity to promote heritage within the City. C. The Committee confirmed they had no comments concerning this minor variance application. Councillor C. Riepma provided a brief overview of the City-led application to rezone lands at 9, 11, 13, 15, 19, 21 and 27 Cumberland Street from “Residential Multiple Dwelling - First Density” (RM1) to “Central Area Commercial” (C1-1) zoning standards as part of the Essa Corridor Study. C. Froese provided historical background information regarding Veterans who lived in this Cumberland Street neighbourhood. C. Colebatch advised that in her correspondence to J. Lambie, Senior Urban Design Planner concerning this rezoning application she will reference Veterans who resided in this Cumberland Street neighbourhood.
