Colebatch reviewed correspondence from the property owners of 62 William Street requesting that the Heritage Barrie Committee provide financial support for a historical plaque to recognize the former family home of WWII Pilot Officer Jack Patton. Ms. Colebatch provided a brief overview of the contributions of Pilot Officer Jack Patton as a Spitfire pilot in the RCAF during WWII. TMP-23681 1  Presentation - AC/RCREVIEW OF THE HERITAGE BARRIE COMMITTEE’S INFORMATION ON THE CITY OF BARRIE WEBSITE T. Wierzba, Planner reviewed the Heritage Barrie Committee’s webpage on the City of Barrie’s website and requested feedback from the Committee. Mr. Wierzba noted that the Heritage webpage is located in the City’s homepage under the Arts, Culture & Events tab. The Committee suggested that a City map identifying the location of designated and non-designated heritage properties on the Municipal Heritage Register be added to the Heritage webpage. The Committee agreed to form a Sub-Committee to further review the content and layout of the Heritage webpage. The following Committee Members volunteered for this Sub-Committee: K. MacKinnon (Lead), D. Exel and C. Colebatch. The Sub-Committee will develop a flow chart of tasks to update the Heritage webpage and present their findings at a future Heritage Barrie Committee meeting.   Action details Not available
TMP-23682 1  Presentation - AC/RCDEBRIEF REGARDING THE 2018 HERITAGE BARRIE AWARDS CEREMONY The Committee discussed the Heritage Barrie Award Presentation held at the City Council meeting on November 26, 2018. T. Wierzba, Planner noted that a total of five 2018 Heritage Barrie Awards were presented in the following categories: group, residential homes, commercial and institutional heritage properties. The Committee approved payment of the following expenses to be charged to the Heritage Barrie Committee Account for costs incurred for the 2018 Heritage Barrie Awards: · Food, beverages and supplies in the amount of $241.13 (Account 01-06-0934-0000-3070); · Retina Photo for digital prints in the amount of $500.00 (Account 01-06-0934-0000-3190); and · Inspired by Art for the framing of five prints in the amount of $1,638.50 (Account 01-06-0934-0000-3190). The Committee briefly discussed the nomination process for 2019 Heritage Barrie Awards and agreed that the nomination period should be extended to run from June 1, 2019 to August 31, 2019.   Action details Not available

TMP-23684 1  Presentation - AC/RCDISCUSSION OF THE PROCEDURE TO ADD HOMES TO THE MUNICIPAL HERITAGE REGISTER PRIOR TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A NEW PROCESS T. Wierzba, Planner reviewed the previous process followed by the Heritage Barrie Committee to add properties to the Municipal Heritage Register. Mr. Wierzba explained that, in the past, the property owner usually forwarded an email request to have his/her property added to the Heritage Register. Mr. Wierzba noted that the property owner was then invited to attend a future meeting of the Heritage Barrie Committee to share photographs of the heritage property and answer questions by the Committee. The Committee discussed potential changes to the existing procedure to add properties to the Heritage Register. T. Wierzba commented that a number of years ago property owners interested in having their properties added to the Heritage Register completed an application form to start the process. The Committee requested that Mr. Wierzba create a draft Heritage Register Application Form for review by the Committee at the next Heritage Barrie Committee meeting.   Action details Not available
TMP-23685 1  Presentation - AC/RCUPDATE REGARDING THE CITY OF BARRIE’S PLANNING AND BUILDING SERVICES DEPARTMENT’S RESEARCH PROJECT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO - BALANCING HERITAGE PROTECTION AND GROWTH PRESSURES T. Wierzba, Planner provided an update regarding a research project partnership with fourth year planning students at the University of Waterloo to explore ways to mitigate the tension between balancing heritage protection and growth pressures within the City of Barrie. Mr. Wierzba noted that seven Heritage Barrie Committee Members participated in the University of Waterloo’s survey. Mr. Wierzba noted that the University of Waterloo student researchers will be providing a presentation to the City of Barrie’s Planning and Building Services staff and to the Heritage Barrie Committee on April 8, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.   Action details Not available
TMP-23698 1  Presentation - AC/RCDISCUSSION REGARDING THE COUNTY OF SIMCOE’S INVITATION FOR THE CITY OF BARRIE TO PARTICIPATE IN DOORS OPEN 2019 T. Wierzba, Planner advised that the County of Simcoe has invited the Heritage Barrie Committee to partner with the County in its 2019 Doors Open Program. Mr. Wierzba explained that the Doors Open Program is a province-wide initiative whereby communities may open their heritage buildings or natural spaces to the public free of charge. The County of Simcoe will be holding its Doors Open event on Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The Heritage Barrie Committee supported the request to participate in the County of Simcoe’s 2019 Doors Open Program. The Committee gave permission for the County of Simcoe to distribute the Heritage Barrie Walking Tours Guide as part of its Doors Open Program. The Committee agreed that partnering with the County of Simcoe on this Doors Open initiative would be an excellent opportunity to promote heritage education within the community.
