19-A-105 1  Awards and RecognitionWELCOME TO THE INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DELEGATION VISITING FROM ZWEIBRÜCKEN, GERMANY Dave Morrison, Chair of the International Relations Committee, welcomed to the City the International Youth Delegation visiting from Zweibrücken, Germany. He thanked members of Council, the host families that housed the German students, and the Simcoe County District School Board for their continued support with the Youth Ambassadors/Global Perspectives Program. Mr. Morrison commented on the success of the Program, the number of students going to and from the two Cities learning about the different cultures and the creation long-lasting friendships. He also noted the special relationship with the officials in Zweibrücken that has continued for over two decades. Mr. Morrison introduced Tom Lehmann, the leader of the German Delegation, a math and physics teacher from Zweibrücken, Germany. Mr. Lehmann discussed that he has been a part of the global family for a year and a half. 19-A-106 1  Awards and RecognitionPRESENTATION OF A GIFT FROM MURAYAMA, JAPAN Deputy Mayor, B. Ward provided details concerning the International Delegation with Murayama, Japan. He noted that the two Cities alternate each year with either a group coming to Barrie or one going to Murayama, Japan. Deputy Mayor Ward advised that the Japanese delegation left Barrie in August, and that they left a gift for the City. He explained the significance of the gift, being a gourd grown by a Japanese farmer and that he carved the gourd and turned it into a light. Mark Sachkiw, member of the International Relations Committee advised that the gift is a significant honour to be given from the Japanese people. Mr. Sachkiw and Deputy Mayor Ward presented the gift to Mayor Lehman on behalf of the Japanese Delegation.Received  Action details Not available
