TMP-23582 1  Presentation - AC/RCPRESENTATION - ORIENTATION FOR COMMITTEES J. Carswell, Deputy City Clerk provided a presentation regarding an Orientation for the 2018 - 2022 Committee Members. Mr. Carswell discussed the following topics: · The Council and Committee Member Code of Conduct; · The Municipal Conflict of Interest Act; · The City of Barrie Procedural By-law; · An overview of meeting procedures: o The basics of Parliamentary Law; and o The role of the Chair, Committee Members and the Committee Support Clerk; · The decision making process; and · The reporting structure of the Heritage Barrie Committee. In closing, T. Wierzba, Planner provided an overview of the Heritage Barrie Committee’s Terms of Reference. Mr. Wierzba noted that the Terms of Reference have been amended as a result of the Heritage Barrie Committee’s merger with the Historic Neighbourhood Strategy Committee. Mr. Wierzba requested that the Committee Members review the revised Terms of Reference and provide their feedback to him prior to the next Committee meeting.   Action details Not available

TMP-23585 1  Presentation - AC/RCOVERVIEW BY THE CITY OF BARRIE’S PLANNING AND BUILDING SERVICES DEPARTMENT OF THE RESEARCH PROJECT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO - BALANCING HERITAGE PROTECTION AND GROWTH PRESSURES T. Wierzba, Planner provided an overview of a research project partnership with fourth year planning students at the University of Waterloo to explore ways to mitigate the tension between balancing heritage protection and growth pressures within the City of Barrie. He advised that the University of Waterloo student researchers will provide recommendations on urban design guidelines and suggestions to increase heritage awareness in the community. T. Wierzba, Planner noted that it is anticipated that the University of Waterloo student researchers will provide a policy report to the City’s Planning and Building Services Department in early Spring. Mr. Wierzba explained that the University of Waterloo student researchers will be seeking input from key stakeholders and the Heritage Barrie Committee Members.
