18-A-073 1  Awards and RecognitionWELCOME TO THE INTERNATIONAL DELEGATION VISITING FROM ZWEIBRUCKEN, GERMANY Mr. Dave Morrison, Chair of the International Relations Committee provided background on the Youth Ambassdor/Global Perspectives Program and their recent exchange activity. Mr. Morrision proceeded to introduce Herr Mattias Eifler from Helmholtz-Gymnasium, Zweibrucken, Germany. Herr Eifler, Vice Principal from the Helmholtz-Gymnasium School shared greetings from the Mayor of Zweibrucken, Germany. He highlighted the activities that the exchange students have participated in and the sites they have visited. Herr Eifler discussed the importance of exchange programs as they help strengthen the relationships between countries and communities, and developing outstanding global citizens. He thanked the host families and volunteers that had made the exchange program possible. Herr Eifler presented a gift of appreciation to City Council. Mayor Lehman welcomed the exchange program participants and thanked Herr Eifler for his address to Council. 18-A-074 1  Awards and RecognitionRECOGNITION OF THE ONTARIO FIRE MARSHAL’S PUBLIC FIRE SAFETY COUNCIL, ENBRIDGE GAS DISTRIBUTION INC. AND BARRIE FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICE ON THE 2018 PROJECT ZERO CAMPAIGN Fire Chief Cory Mainprize provided an update on the partnership between Barrie Fire and Emergency Services, the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council and Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. on the 2018 Project Zero campaign. He advised that 342 carbon monoxide and smoke alarms were donated to the City of Barrie for distribution to the community. Chief Mainprize advised that the focus was to provide the carbon monoxide detectors to the more vulnerable populations in Barrie. He noted that the project aims at improved fire safety in homes, including reducing the fire and carbon monoxide related deaths. Fire Chief Mainprize introduced Jeff Holden of the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council and Joe Corrigan of Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. 18-A-075 1  Awards and RecognitionPRESENTATION TO MEMBERS OF CITY COUNCIL FOR THEIR SUPPORT OF THE “ZACK MAKES TRACKS” CAMPAIGN Shelley and Zach Hofer thanked members of City Council for their support of the “Zach Makes Tracks” campaign. Ms. Hofer provided an update on the campaign and announced that over $120,000 has been raised for youth mental health in the last year. Zach provided copies of his book commemorating his fundraising journey of summer 2017 in appreciation to Council for its support of the campaign. Mayor Lehman remarked that Zach had clearly inspired the community with his goal to raise awareness and funds for youth mental health. 18-A-076 1  Awards and RecognitionRECOGNITION OF THE BARRIE SOCCER CLUB’S UNDER14 GIRLS SOCCER TEAM FOR BEING INDUCTED INTO THE BARRIE SPORTS HALL OF FAME AND FOR WINNING THE 2017 ONTARIO CUP CHAMPIONSHIPS. Mayor Lehman recognized the Barrie Soccer Club Under14 Girls Soccer Team for being inducted into the Barrie Sports Hall of Fame and for being the first Youth Soccer Team from the Barrie Soccer Club and area to win the 2017 Ontario Cup Championships. He called upon the team coach to join him at the podium to recognize the team and to provide an overview of their season. Mr. Will Devellis thanked Council for the recognition and provided some highlights from their winning season. He recognized how the team members have developed as great soccer players and exceptional people. Mayor Lehman congratulated the team on their accomplishments.
