TMP-22419 1  Presentation - AC/RCNATIONAL ACCESSABILITY WEEK The Committee discussed events to celebrate National AccessAbility Week which is taking place from May 28 to June 3, 2018. The Committee discussed arrangements for a site visit to Variety Village in Toronto on May 28, 2018. C. Dillion, Accessibility Co-ordinator advised that National AccessAbility Week will be proclaimed by the Mayor at a meeting of City Council closer to the date. Ms. Dillon will forward a draft proclamation to the Committee for review and comment. C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator proposed an open forum for a future meeting of the Accessibility Advisory Committee. Ms. Dillon suggested that the purpose of this meeting would be to obtain feedback from community stakeholders to assist in developing the City’s Accessible Communication Campaign. The Committee agreed to proceed with an open forum stakeholders meeting in the future to discuss accessibility issues within the community.   Action details Not available
TMP-22420 1  Presentation - AC/RCACCESSIBLE BUSINESS AWARDS The Committee discussed the City of Barrie’s 2018 Accessible Business Awards including nomination and presentation timelines. TMP-22421 1  Presentation - AC/RCACCESSIBILITY COMMUNITY COMPLAINTS K. Bastien discussed accessibility problems that he has experienced while visiting some government facilities within the City. The Committee suggested that Mr. Bastien contact MPP Ann Hoggarth regarding accessibility issues at provincial facilities. The Committee also suggested that Mr. Bastien contact his Ward Councillor and/or the Mayor’s office concerning accessibility issues at municipal facilities. R. Meier noted that complaints and suggestions could also be forwarded to the City through the free mobile Pingstreet app. Mr. Bastien also noted that the label to identify the wheelchair access button is worn at the main entrance to City Hall from Worsley Street. C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator will further investigate this matter. K. Ashworth shared her ongoing concerns regarding wheelchair securement and equipment functionality on Barrie conventional transit. C. TMP-22422 1  Presentation - AC/RCTRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY SECOND QUARTER UPDATE R. Meier reviewed the Memorandum to General Committee dated April 9, 2018, from the Enforcement Services Branch of the Legislative and Court Services Department entitled, “2nd Quarter Update: Transportation Industry By-law - Pilot Project”. Mr. Meier cited the “Complaints Received” section of the Memorandum which stated that the Accessibility Advisory Committee had identified concerns related to the lack of accessible taxi cabs in the City of Barrie. C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator requested that each member of the Accessibility Advisory Committee prepare a brief summary of his/her experience with accessible taxi cabs in the City. Ms. Dillon will compile the Committee’s feedback and prepare a Memorandum to Council concerning accessible taxi cabs in the City.   Action details Not available
