K. Ashworth shared her concerns regarding transit accessibility challenges. Ms. Ashworth discussed problems she has experienced on Barrie Transit concerning: wheelchair securement and equipment functionality, snow clearing at conventional bus stops and booking trips on specialized transit.
J. Zimmerman, Supervisor of Transit Operations addressed Ms. Ashworth’s accessibility concerns regarding Barrie Transit. Mr. Zimmerman noted that transit enquiries and complaints could be emailed to transit@barrie.ca . The Committee asked a number of questions and received responses from Mr. Zimmerman.
C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator provided an overview of the Travel Training Program offered by Guelph Transit. Ms. Dillion noted that a Travel Training Program assists individuals living with a disability to navigate the conventional transit system using plain language and visual prompts. She proposed requesting Guelph Transit to provide a presentation to the Accessibility Advisory Committee on their Travel Training Program. | Received | |

Ms. Dillon advised that the City will be conducting surveys to obtain input on accessibility planning from the community and stakeholder groups. Onley to Review Ontario’s Accessibility Laws - Ontario Continues to Make Progress toward Becoming a Barrier-free Province”. Ms. Dillion noted that the Honourable David C. Onley will be consulting with the public to analyze accessibility progress and that the review will be complete by the end of 2018. | Received | |
