TMP-21947 1  Presentation - AC/RC55+ INFORMATION DIRECTORY UPDATE C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator provided an update concerning the status of the 55+ Information Directory. Ms. Dillon advised that the Barrie Examiner is no longer assisting the Seniors Advisory Committee in the publication of the Directory due to their recent closure and that she will report back to the Committee with alternative publishing options.   Action details Not available
TMP-21946 1  Presentation - AC/RCAGE-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY PLAN UPDATE C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator provided an update concerning the status of the Age-Friendly Community Plan. Ms. Dillon advised she is working with City staff to compile a completed and not completed project list from 2017. TMP-21945 1  Presentation - AC/RCSENIORS HOUSING UPDATE R. Cotton advised that he met with A. Bourrie, Director of Planning and Building Services, to discuss the current inventory and new projects for seniors housing and the status of the City’s new Official Plan. L. Stevenson discussed the addition of 16 Life Lease Units to Victoria Village that include meals and amenities, and the possible development of a Long Term Care Centre on Church site next to Victoria Village. Goulie, Recreation Programmer discussed a recent submission of a grant application to the Province of Ontario Seniors Community Grant Program. TMP-21948 1  Presentation - AC/RC2017 ONTARIO ADULT CENTRES ASSOCIATION OF ONTARIO (OACAO) DEBRIEF J. Youell-Robson provided a summary concerning her attendance at the 2017 Ontario Adult Centres Association of Ontario (OACAO) Conference and noted that the Conference provided an opportunity to network, to connect with peers and organizations, and education. Ms. Youell-Robson advised she attended the following workshops and a session with a key-note speaker: a) Art Therapy - art used to change and enhance the lives of seniors while providing creativity in expression and their inner self in a safe environment; b) Mind Busters and Ageless Grace - to challenge minds to a variety of brain experiences, short term and long term memory through flash cards, mazes, awareness activities and chair exercises to different types of music to work the left and right sides of your brain; and c) Key Note Speaker - “Reaching the Heights” by Alan Mallory concerning his families experiences of planning and climbing Mount Everest.   Action details Not available

Gourlie, Recreation Programmer provided information concerning seniors events scheduled at the Parkview and Allandale 55+ Centres during the month of January, 2018. L. Bourassa advised that January, 2018 is “Alzheimer’s Awareness Month” and that the Alzheimer’s Society theme is to reduce the stigma associated with the Alzheimer’s disease. L. Ricardo advised that the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) will be celebrating its 100th anniversary during the month of April, 2018, recognizing a century of change and volunteer appreciation.   Action details Not available
