TMP-21321 1  Item of DiscussionAGE-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY PLAN C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator discussed the progress of implementing the Age-Friendly Community Plan in regards to the recommended areas identified within the plan that included the following eight key areas: 1. Outdoor Spaces and Buildings; 2. Transportation; 3. Housing; 4. Recreation and Social Participation; 5. Respect and Social Inclusion; 6. Civic Participation and Employment; 7. Community and Information; and 8. Community and Health Services. Ms. Dillon noted that she will be meeting with City staff for further updates on the progress of the Age-Friendly Community Plan and will provide updates at a future meetings. Ms. Dillon advised that a final report was sent to the Province of Ontario outlining the City of Barrie Age-Friendly Committee Plan.Received  Action details Not available
TMP-21279 1  Correspondence55+ INFORMATION DIRECTORY C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator advised the Committee that she met with the Barrie Examiner to discuss the possibility of partnering with the Seniors Advisory Committee (“SAC”) to produce a new version of the 55+ Information Directory. Ms. Dillon advised that the Barrie Examiner agreed to partner with the SAC and will assist in printing and distribution of the Directory. The Committee approved expenditures of funds from the SAC Account # 01-06-0938-0000-3071 in the amount not to exceed $2,000.00 for costs associated with the production of the 55+ Information Directory. The Committee discussed the types of information that would be beneficial to assist seniors to include in the Directory.Received  Action details Not available
TMP-21278 1  CorrespondenceNUTRITIOUS FOOD BASKET The Committee discussed the Food Insecurity presentation that was provided at the June 12, 2017 Seniors Advisory Committee meeting, specifically the information associated with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) that seniors should be able to fill a basket of nourishing food for $51.00 per week. M. Malcolm detailed her research that she undertook to assess a week in the life of a hypothetical senior and the costs associated with housing, transportation, and nutritional grocery costs. The Committee agreed to forward Ms. Malcolm’s research material to the SMDHU for a response and clarification on current costs associated with all areas of seniors living.Received  Action details Not available

Goulie, Recreation Programmer provided an overview of the following events: · Outreach Day Programs for Seniors being held every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month located at Parkview 55+ Centre from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; · Holiday Market - Fall and Christmas Collide to be held on September 30th, 2017 located at the Parkview 55+ Centre from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; and · Annual Fabulous 50’s dance to be held on October 18, 2017 located at the Southshore Centre from 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. R. McEachern advised that CARP, Chapter 36 is hosting speaker Christy Tosh to speak about the Building of an Age-Friendly Simcoe County. The meeting is to be held on September 19, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. located at Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 201 Minet’s Point Road, Barrie. The Committee approved expenditures of funds from the Seniors Advisory Committee Account # 01-06-0938-0000-3071 in the amount not to exceed $800.00 for costs associated with the 2017 Ontario Adult Centres Association of Ontario (OACAO) Aging Well Conference.Received  Action details Not available
