The Committee discussed working with staff in Access Barrie on methods to acknowledge Accessible Businesses and the promotion of the Accessible Business Awards in May, 2018. TMP-21426 2  Item of DiscussionACCESSIBILITY ARTS AWARDS - UPDATE C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator provided an update regarding 2017 Barrie Arts Awards category entitled “Artists without Barriers”. Ms. Dillon commented that staff still are attempting to obtain a sponsor for the “Artist without Barriers” award category. The Committee discussed potentially providing an additional $1,000.00 from the Committee’s budget, if a sponsor was not located in 2017. Ms. Dillon provided the Committee with a copy of the 2017 Barrie Arts Award Nomination Information and Nomination Form for their reference. Ms. Dillon highlighted that the deadline for the nominations for the 2017 Barrie Arts Awards is October 23, 2017. Ms. Dillon invited the Committee to attend the award ceremony scheduled on November 15, 2017 at the Southshore Centre.Received  Action details Not available
TMP-21427 2  Item of DiscussionAUDIBLE PEDESTRIAN SIGNALS (APS) - UPDATE C. Dillon provided an update regarding the audible pedestrian signals. Ms. Dillon discussed that she had received a concern from a resident regarding the placement of an audible pedestrian signal at Lougheed Road and Columbia Road intersection. The Committee provided their feedback on this matter. R. Meier suggested retrofitting the intersection with tactile surfacing. Ms. Dillon indicated that the intersection of Lougheed Road and Columbia Road will be added to the Audible Pedestrian Signal Location List.Received  Action details Not available
TMP-21433 2  Item of DiscussionPLANNING FOR UPDATES TO MULTI-YEAR ACCESSIBILITY PLANS C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator provided an update regarding the Multi Year Accessibility Plans. Ms. Dillon commented that both the 2013-2018 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan and 2013-2018 Multi-Year Transit Accessibility Plan will expire on December 31, 2018. She noted that work will commence on updating both multi-year plans in 2017-2018. Ms. Dillon will provide further information regarding multi-year plans at a future meeting.Received  Action details Not available
TMP-21429 2  Item of DiscussionTHE FORWARD MOVEMENT - DISCUSSION C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator reviewed correspondence that she received from The Forward Movement regarding an advocacy and awareness campaign requesting the Province of Ontario to adopt the Dynamic Symbol of Access (DSA) as an alternate to the International Symbol of Access (ISA). Ms. Dillon advised that The Forward Movement is looking for the support of the municipality. Ms. Dillon commented that MPP Bill Walker of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound has tabled a resolution requesting the Province of Ontario adopt the Dynamic Symbol of Access in Ontario. TMP-21431 2  Item of DiscussionPOWER WHEELCHAIR/SCOOTER CHARGING STATIONS - DISCUSSION The Committee met and discussed power wheelchair/scooter charging stations. C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator highlighted that the City of Sarnia and County of Lambton received the Municipal Accessibility Award from the Ontario Social Services Association in recognition of their local pilot project for installing mobility device charging stations at public spaces. Ms. Dillon advised that she has received concerns from an individual regarding power wheelchair and their limited battery time. R. Meier commented that he has requested further information from the City of Sarnia regarding their mobility device charging stations.
