Sunwoong indicated that during his time in office he learned a lot about the City and how the municipality works together to maintain a perfect City of Barrie for its citizens. Sunwoong noted that observed that everyone in the Council Chambers is very passionate about the City of Barrie. He advised that he was interested in the past discussions regarding the Downtown Barrie Public Market and related budget issues. He commented that students should learn to acknowledge that municipal government is very important. Rashaan Watson of Mapleview Heights Elementary School thanked the Mayor and Members of Council for their gratitude shown toward his participation in the Student Mayor Program. Romita, Chair of the Communities in Bloom Committee announced that the City of Barrie was presented Canada 150. She advised that it was a special category in 2017 Communities in Bloom for showcasing municipalities and our countries’ civic pride in recognition of Canadas 150th Anniversary. Councillor Romita advised that the City of Barrie competed against 31 other municipalities across Canada. Councillor Romita commented that the City of Barrie was honored to receive the “Five Leaves” Silver rating and Special Mention Award for “Lampman Lane Park Makeover”. 17-A-145 1  DeputationDEPUTATION BY CATHY COLEBATCH REGARDING MOTION 17-G-325, YEAR ROUND DOWNTOWN PUBLIC MARKET Cathy Colebatch provided a deputation in opposition to motion 17-G-325, concerning the Year Round Downtown Public Market. She discussed her concerns related with Option C as set out in the Downtown Barrie Permanent Public Market Technical and Financial Validation Study related to phased approach for Barrie Transit through Multi Modal Transit Hub. Ms. Colebatch advised that she felt that the entire project is like a virtual project and has been endorsed in principal every step of the way. Ms. Colebatch discussed her concerns associated with the Transit Hub Study being funded from the Tax Rate Stabilization Reserve instead of the Capital Fund Reserve. Ms. Colebatch advised that the concepts vision and ideas of the project are viable but should include public participation.
