TMP-21303 1  Item of DiscussionSTATUS UPDATE - PROPOSAL FOR DEMOLITION/SITE ALTERATION OF FORMER PRINCE OF WALES PUBLIC SCHOOL AND FORMER BARRIE CENTRAL COLLEGIATE K. Brislin, Senior Planner reviewed correspondence from HIP Developments dated July 26, 2017 summarizing their proposed plans for the selective demolition of the Prince of Wales Public School (the school) located at 80 Bradford Street. A. Bourrie, Director Planning and Building Services provided an overview of the current condition of the school. Ms. Bourrie discussed inspections by the City’s Building Services Branch that concluded that the school was unsalvageable in its current state. She noted that the City’s Fire and Emergency Services Department also identified health and safety concerns with the school. Ms. Bourrie advised that a heritage/cultural assessment of the school property has been requested. She stated that Planning and Building Services Department will be submitting a memorandum to Council in September to provide an update on the status of the proposed demolition and site alteration of the school. TMP-21286 1  Item of DiscussionHERITAGE BARRIE STRATEGY DISCUSSION K. Brislin, Senior Planner provided an update regarding the draft Heritage Barrie Strategy. Ms. Brislin stated that she is currently developing a communication and consultation plan for the Heritage Barrie Strategy. She advised that a series of information sessions will be scheduled in the Fall to obtain public input to identify, document and prioritize Barrie’s heritage resources. Ms. Brislin noted that public feedback obtained from these information sessions will be incorporated into the final Heritage Barrie Strategy. She advised the Committee that the goal of the Planning and Building Services Department is to present the final Heritage Barrie Strategy to Council by the end of this year.Received  Action details Not available

TMP-21285 1  Item of DiscussionHERITAGE WALKING TOURS WORKING GROUP - UPDATE D. Exel provided an update regarding the status of the consolidated Heritage Walking Tour booklet. Ms. Exel acknowledged the assistance provided by Access Barrie to edit and design the updated Heritage Walking Tour booklet. She stated that copies of the new Heritage Walking Tour booklet were distributed to the public at the Illuminate Barrie event held at the Barrie waterfront on Labour Day weekend.
