16-A-067 2  Student/Mayor ItemCOMMENTS FROM OUTGOING STUDENT MAYOR Donavan Gilroy of W.C. Little Elementary School noted that he was elected as Student Mayor for the period of May 30, 2016 to June 13, 2016. He thanked Ms. Best at W. C. Little Elementary School for recommending the position to him and General Committee for allowing him to have a different look at politics and fueling his passion for debate even more. Donavan commented that he had witnessed and learned an abundance of things during his term. He observed that it does not take shear emotionless logic to be great politician but a sense of community and not only for the want for a better society, but betterment for the members of society themselves. Donavan discussed that he now has no reason to fear government on the premise of money and economy fueling governments, as he feels that Council does what they do for the betterment of the City. He commented that he has the confidence and knowledge of politics based on observing it in action and not by reviewing it on the internet the next day. 16-A-069 2  DeputationDEPUTATION REGARDING MOTION 16-G-148, SOUTH BARRIE SECONDARY SCHOOL - 225 PRINCE WILLIAM WAY - SITE PLAN APPROVAL - SECOND SUBMISSION (WARD 10) Mr. Ben Browne provided a deputation in objection to motion 16-G-148, South Barrie Secondary School - 225 Prince William Way - Site Plan Approval - Second Submission. Mr. Browne discussed lessons that parents teach children, including to respect authority and the rules and directions set out by those people with authority. He commented that the Simcoe County District School Board felt that the rules and policies did not apply to them and they continued to push until they achieved the outcome they wanted. Mr. Browne advised that he felt that the character traits that are instilled in students have not been practiced at the School Board and that the School Board is also failing to display traits of leadership by disregarding clear policies and guidelines for their own personal agenda and motives. 16-A-070 2  DeputationDEPUTATION REGARDING MOTION 16-G-142, OVERNIGHT PARKING PROHIBITION BRIGHTON ROAD (WARD 1) Ms. Cheryl Schneider provided a deputation in opposition to motion 16-G-142 concerning an overnight parking prohibition on Brighton Road. Ms. Schneider discussed the survey and notice provided by the City with respect to changes to the overnight parking prohibitions on Brighton Road in March 2015 and March 2016, including the options provided by staff. She noted the conversations she had with staff concerning parking on Brighton Road and related homes being turned student residences and non-residents living in some of the homes as well as the impacts they have on parking. Ms. Schneider commented that she had provided other options rather than restricting parking to the south side and felt her suggestions were not acknowledged.
