T. Wierzba, Planner provided an update regarding the status of potential listings for the Municipal Heritage Register.
T. Wierzba advised that correspondence on behalf of the Heritage Barrie Committee along with an updated Municipal Heritage Register Application will be forwarded to the property owners of 126 Letitia Street, 8 Peel Street and 8 Essa Road. T. Wierzba advised that he will forward a copy of the letter template to the Committee. T. Wierzba commented that one of the projects for the Planning and Building Services students was to take photographs of all the designated properties on the Municipal Heritage Registry.
Mr. Wierzba provided an overview of the new version of the City of Barrie’s “Discover Barrie App” which includes the Heritage walking tours. | Received | |

C. Colebatch provided an update regarding Doors Open 2019. Ms. Colebatch showcased the Doors Ontario website and she commented that seven Barrie locations have confirmed their participation. C. Colebatch suggested that the Committee should engage with the Downtown Business Improvement Area (BIA) to promote and increase participation in future Doors Open events.
The Committee discussed communication and promotion of the County of Simcoe’s Doors Open event. T. Maynard, Acting Deputy City Clerk suggested inviting staff from Access Barrie to a future meeting to discuss the promotion of Heritage events. | Received | |

The Committee discussed the proposed Heritage Barrie Budget for 2020. T. Wierzba, Planner suggested that a strategy should be developed regarding plaques for designated buildings and listed properties on the Municipal Heritage Registry and to finish signage for historic neighbourhoods. C. Colebatch suggested that the City of Barrie should investigate the hiring of a Heritage Planner. Councillor, C. The Committee discussed the 2019 Heritage Barrie Awards. T. Wierzba, Planner commented he has not received many nominations for the 2019 Heritage Barrie Awards.
Councillor, C. Riepma advised that the deadline for submission of nominations for the Heritage Barrie Awards is August 30, 2019 and that discussion regarding the submissions will take place at the next Committee meeting. Councillor, C. Riepma suggested that each Committee member bring a suggestion for nominations that includes the owner permission.

C. Froese provided an update regarding the proposed heritage plaque initiative for heritage buildings within the City of Barrie. C. Froese and C. Manewell brought samples of laminated and metal signage material to obtain the Committee’s feedback. Mr. Froese and Ms. Manewell reviewed the pricing quotes from other signage companies for the different types of heritage plaques.
The Committee agreed to develop a strategy regarding heritage plaques and the plaques for the designated buildings on the Municipal Heritage Registry will be an oval cast bronze and listed properties on the Municipal Heritage Registry to be oval aluminium plaque and both signs will include a date. | Received | |
