PRESENTATION BY SHAK’S WORLD CONCERNING A PROGRAM FOR THE DELIVERY OF BASKETBALL AND OFF-COURT MENTORSHIP PROGRAMMING
Shak Edwards, Founder of Shak’s World provided a presentation concerning a community program that developed to empower youth to stay humble and kind through the delivery of basketball and an off-court mentorship program.
Ms. Edwards discussed slides concerning the following topics:
• Shak’s World Mission Statement to address youth mental health through sports mentorship and community;
• Their program principles being “Respect, Integrity, Discipline and Accountability”;
• The background of the founder of Shak’s World, Shak Edwards;
• Why Shak’s World was developed;
• Shak’s World community engagement plan and collaboration efforts with local organizations and business;
• The past initiatives and program impacts on youth;
• The current programming goals and potential programming ideas for the Shak’s World Community Centre; and
• The financial plans and organization sustainability associated to Shak’s World.
Members of Council asked a number of questions to Ms. Edwards and City staff and received responses.
