Title: PRESENTATION - ORIENTATION FOR COMMITTEES J. Carswell, Deputy City Clerk provided a presentation regarding an Orientation for the 2018 - 2022 Committee Members. Mr. Carswell discussed the following topics: * The Council/Committee Code of Conduct is currently under review and further updates will be presented at a later date; * The Municipal Conflict of Interest Act; * The City of Barrie Procedural By-law; * An overview of meeting procedures: o The basics of Parliamentary Law; and o The role of the Chair, Committee Members and the Committee Support Clerk; * The decision making process; * The reporting structure of the Accessibility Advisory Committee; and * An overview of the Accessibility Advisory Committee Terms of Reference. In closing, C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator reviewed the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Training Booklet. PRESENTATION - ORIENTATION FOR COMMITTEES

 

J. Carswell, Deputy City Clerk provided a presentation regarding an Orientation for the 2018 - 2022 Committee Members.

 

Mr. Carswell discussed the following topics:

 

                     The Council/Committee Code of Conduct is currently under review and further updates will be presented at a later date;

                     The Municipal Conflict of Interest Act;

                     The City of Barrie Procedural By-law;

                     An overview of meeting procedures:

o                     The basics of Parliamentary Law; and

o                     The role of the Chair, Committee Members and the Committee Support Clerk;

                     The reporting structure of the Accessibility Advisory Committee; and

                     An overview of the Accessibility Advisory Committee Terms of Reference.

 

In closing, C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator reviewed the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Training Booklet.  Ms. Dillon provided a brief overview of the following legislation:  AODA, Integrated Accessibility Standards, the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Ontario Blind Persons Rights Act.  She advised that the City of Barrie will be updating its Accessible Customer Service Policy this year with input from the Accessible Advisory Committee.  Ms. Dillon noted that the Accessible Advisory Committee sponsored the 2018 Barrie Arts Award in the category entitled “Artist without Barriers”.  She also noted that City Council and the Accessibility Advisory Committee presented certificates for the 2018 Accessibility Business Awards to recognize local businesses and organizations that made exceptional strides to improve accessibility and provide inclusiveness for the community.
