PRESENTATION REGARDING THE BARRIE PUBLIC LIBRARY 2020 OPERATING GRANT REQUEST
Austin Mitchell, Chair of the Barrie Public Library Board introduced Lauren Jessop, CEO of the Barrie Public Library, the members of the Barrie Public Library Board, the library management and supporters who were in attendance at the meeting. Mr. Mitchell provided a presentation concerning the Barrie Public Library 2020 Operating Grant request.
Mr. Mitchell discussed slides concerning the following topics:
• The highlights of the Barrie Public Library (BPL) 2020 Budget;
• The BPL Board’s focus on growing the City’s library system and meeting the needs of residents;
• The new mission, vision and value statements for the BPL;
• The value of the library services to the community, the successes of the BPL and the current challenges that are being experienced;
• The BPL planning for growth and the associated increases for electronic resources, additional services and programs, the overcapacity of program attendance and in-person library visits;
• A map illustrating the locations of the proposed Library Branches;
• An update on the BPL 2018 Master Facilities Plan;
• An overview of the Municipal Operating Grant Request; and
• A summary of the BPL 2019 and 2020 Budgets.
Members of City Council asked a number of questions of Mr. Mitchell and Ms. Jessop and received responses.
