PRESENTATION BY REPRESENTATIVE(S) OF THE SIMCOE MUSKOKA DISTRICT HEALTH UNIT CONCERNING PUBLIC HEALTH IN SIMCOE MUSKOKA
Dr. Charles Gardner, Medical Officer of Health for the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit provided a presentation concerning Public Health in Simcoe Muskoka. Dr. Gardner discussed slides concerning the following topics:
• The Mission of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU);
• The 2018 Public Health Standards;
• The 2019 Board of Health Members;
• The Vision of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit;
• The SMHDU’s Strategic Priorities;
• The areas that the SMHDU engage with municipalities;
• The Low Income Action Plan;
• Climate Change and the Built Environment;
• The need for an Opioid Strategy;
• The public health guidance for municipalities associated with cannabis;
• Mental Health Promotion;
• Engagement with the Indigenous Communities;
• The SMHDU Annual Community Report;
• The Provincial Accountability Agreements and Performance indicator results for 2018;
• A pie graph illustrating the 2018 Provincial Municipal Funding Share;
• A table illustrating the per capita public health funding from the City of Barrie Levy; and
• A summary of final thoughts on the municipal influence on health.
Members of Council asked several questions of Dr. Gardner and received responses.
