Title: DEBRIEF FROM THE 2019 STUDENT ORIENTATION AT GEORGIAN COLLEGE The Committee provided a post mortem of Georgian College's 2019 Student Orientation Session which was held on September 3, 2019. The Committee discussed overall success of the orientation. B. Muscat noted that approximately 6,000 students received their U-Pass Transit Pass. He suggested that the transit pass be included on the student card, instead of using a sticker. This may be investigated for the Winter semester intake in January. R. Calvano, Director of Campus Safety and Security at Georgian College noted that presentations were made by Barrie Police Service as well as many City of Barrie Departments. He advised that the Barrie Police Service did a presentation at the International Student Orientation, and felt that the presentation could be re-focused to be more informative for international students. R. Calvano, Director of Campus Safety and Security at Georgian College noted that presentations were made by Barrie Police Service as well as many City of Barrie Departments. He advised that the Barrie Police Service did a presentation at the International Student Orientation, and felt that the presentation could be re-focused to be more informative for international students. He noted that a suggestion was made by the Barrie Police Service to do an 'active shooter' exercise at the Barrie campus, which would also include paramedics and Barrie Fire and Emergency Services. A campus safety video discussing sexual violence will be available on the Georgian website.

The Committee provided suggestions for improvements to future orientations. M. Gallagher suggested providing students with more detailed off campus housing information with respect to the City's requirements. J. Morozuk indicated that it is important to have increased neighbour representation, and would also like to see continued representation by City of Barrie Councillor(s). It was also agreed that it is important to develop activities that better engage the students. J. Morozuk also noted that while there is a newcomer program at the library, winter is very difficult for International Students, especially during the holidays.
