Title: UNIVERSAL DESIGN PRINCIPLES J. Lambie, Senior Urban Design Planner provided an overview of the consultation and research that has been undertaken in preparing the new Official Plan related to universal design standards. J. Lambie, Senior Urban Design Planner provided an overview of the consultation and research that has been undertaken in preparing the new Official Plan related to universal design standards.  He noted that there is information on buildingbarrie.ca associated with studies that have been undertaken to date and that the team has involved C. Dillon, Accessibility and Diversity Coordinator as part of the consultation process through her involvement on a Technical Team.  J. C. Dillon suggested that staff review standards established by the Town of Caledon with respect to accessibility and universal design standards.

 

J. Lambie noted that it is anticipated that the new Official Plan will be presented to Council in the summer of 2020.  He discussed the accessibility standards that are currently in the Official Plan.  J. Lambie noted that the urban design guidelines would follow passage of the new Official Plan and that staff would review implementing further standards associated with universal design.

 

R. Meier, Chair noted that currently there is not provisions for universal design standards in the revised Community Improvement Plan and requested that staff be invited to the next meeting to provide details associated with the revised Plan.
