Mayor Lehman invited Cory Mainprize, Acting Fire Chief/Director of Emergency Services to join him at the podium to present the awards from the International Association of Firefighters Media Awards (IAFF) to the Fire Prevention Branch of the Barrie Fire and Emergency Service (BFES).

Mainprize thanked members of Council for the opportunity to recognize the work that the Fire Prevention Branch does for the City of Barrie.  Mr. Mainprize noted that they are often the unsung heroes of the BFES, but that they are a key part in the education and prevention of fire safety.  Mr. Mainprize introduced Jeff Weber, Deputy Chief of Prevention and Community Emergency Management and the members of the Fire Prevention Branch.

 

J. Weber recognized the creativity and exudence that the Fire Prevention Branch demonstrates on a daily basis to educate fire safety and prevention.  Mr. Weber advised that this was the third year in a row that the Branch has been considered for the IAFF media awards and recognized for their fire safety messaging.  Mr. Weber noted that they won three awards in 2017, two specific to BFES and the third for a partnership between BFES and TVO Kids.  Mr. Weber played two of the award winning videos, the first being the BFES and TVO Kids video and the second entitled “Do It For You” video created by the BFES.

 

Mayor Lehman recognized the talents and creativity of the Fire Prevention Branch regarding their methods to communicate fire safety messages. He commented on the tragic reality that fires can cost people their lives. 

 

Mayor Lehman asked the Fire Prevention Branch to approach the podium to receive the awards and he congratulated and recognized them on their ongoing efforts.
