OPEN DELEGATION BY BONNIE NORTH AND KEENAN AYLWIN REGARDING THE CULTIVATING CULTURE - URBAN PANTRY PROJECT

 

Ms. Bonnie North and Mr. Keenan Aylwin provided an Open Delegation regarding the Cultivating Culture - Urban Pantry Project. Ms. North commented that the Urban Pantry Project.

 

Ms. North and Mr. Aylwin discussed slides concerning the following topics:

 

                     The background of the Urban Pantry Project;

                     The goal of the Urban Pantry Project;

                     The role of the Urban Pantry Project;

                     A description of urban agriculture;

                     A description of the Urban Agriculture Strategy;

                     A request to the City to assist in the implementation and adoption of an Urban Agriculture Strategy through the Urban Agriculture Policy Council;

                     Potential funding partners for the project;

                     A picture of a garden on Codrington Street that grows enough food to share with community organizations; and

                     A picture of Coulter Street Community Garden.

 

In conclusion, Ms. North commented that the City of London has an Urban Agriculture Strategy and that she would forward the information to the Committee for their reference.  Ms. North noted that she felt that an Urban Agriculture Strategy would address all seven goals of Barrie’s Climate Change Adaptation Strategy. 

 

Members of the Community Services Committee asked several questions regarding the presentation and received responses from staff.
